Don’t Oversell It… It Will Just Be Spam.
You have the picture in your mind of the stereotypical salesman.
Pure CHEESE!
Just because we apply this vision of a sales person to car salesmen, you see people like this all the time.
It’s the multi-level marketer that always want to talk to you about “a once in a lifetime business opportunity.
It’s the real estate broker that is always pitching how much he can sell your house.
It’s the person that always is trying to convince you that what you are doing can be done better if you just try the latest and greatest.
When someone is overbearing, we know it.
When we are overbearing, no one tells us.
When times are tough, we get desperate. When we aren’t closing the business we need, we try to push anything, anywhere at any time.
I promise you, if you try too hard to sell, you’ll lose more than you gain.
This is most applicable in social media. Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are filled with overly eager sales people.
I am going to call one out right now because it just drives me nuts.
Check out this Twitter profile: http://twitter.com/kimandphilstone
If they change their profile, let me know and I’ll post a screen shot. 15K tweets and I bet they are all for the one product he is pushing.
What I don’t get is why there are 39K people following him. Don’t you have any self respect?
When you oversell, you simply join the ranks of the spammers. Whether it is online or offline, the result is the same.
Stop pitching and start serving. Stop selling and start consulting.
I promise, you’ll be more respected and you’ll end up being far more successful.
