You Always Have a Choice
How often do you hear people say that they simply don’t have a choice? They have to do something. They have to stay in their dead end job. They have do this or that.
The fact of the matter is that you always have a choice. You are never compelled to do something that you don’t choose to do.
Once you make a choice, you have to be prepared for the consequences. That really is the challenge of all choices. Something will happen based on the choice you make. Usually the consequence is beyond your control and reduces your options. If you don’t face your consequences, your choices become more difficult.
Many time people will find themselves in a position where they are being exploited, used or abused. The challenge that these people face is that they simply don’t know they have a choice. They don’t know that they have options. They don’t know that they can make a choice to change their situation.
Sometimes the options seem bleak. Sometimes the hard decision is the right one.
Always there is a choice.
You can’t make choices for other people… as much as our politicians would like us to believe that. We can’t control the company that is treating us poorly. We can’t control the idiot in the other car that just cut us off. We can’t control the bad choices of others. We can only see what choices those consequences offer us… no matter how hard they might be for us.
Do I quit my job or continue to work for a jerk of a boss?
Do I get an education or continue to just get by in my dead end job?
Do I leave a good situation for something that might be better?
Do I get insurance or play the odds and hope I’ll stay healthy?
Do I passively accept ridicule or do I stand up for myself?
Do I kill or be killed?
The moment we think that we don’t have a choice is the moment that we start down a slippery slope of uncontrolled failure. The moment we realize that we have a choice is the moment that we become liberated and start to take control of our own destiny.
Make a choice.
Accept the consequence.
Learn from your mistakes.
Make better choices in the future.
